“Inspired by a lotus pond in winter, this work captures themes of death, decay, ageing, survival and renewal. In summer, lotus flowers blossom above a tangle of roots hidden below in muddy water. In winter, flowers die leaving only bare stalks above. Though all seems cold, lost and forgotten, the promise of another new bloom lies beneath the surface. Walking by the winter lotus pond reminded me of exploring my own collection of memories, hidden and tangled beneath the surface, within the void. This print was created using four carved plates, printed on handmade Korean mulberry paper with barren.”
