“This painting blends history and memories with contemporary experience and visual perception. The objects within the drawn space focus on an absent presence, there are no human figurative events except the two anatomical skulls. There is an ambivalent sense that someone, the artist, has just left the room or corridor. Or is it a ‘stage’? The objects encapsulate a moment in time – the neglected emergency red telephone receiver lying forgotten off the hook, the profusion of seemingly abandoned books, the locked apartment doors, spilt champagne glass and the artists own spectacles. This body of works are viewed through a scenographic lens – drawn from the artist’s background as a theatre designer.”
